At the end of 2022, Apple passed an unwanted milestone: It failed to release any new Macs in the fourth quarter for the first time in 22 years. Now, though, there’s some good news about those missing Macs.
Apple may be planning to launch a slate of new computers at a barnstorming March event, if LeaksApplePro is to be believed. leaker took to twitter to post their predictions, and they’ve gauged the appetites of the Apple faithful.
According to LeaksApplePro, at least five new Macs will be on display at the event. This includes a Mac Pro, a Mac mini, a 15-inch MacBook Air, as well as 14-inch and 16-inch versions of the MacBook Pro.
Starting with the Mac Pro, LeaksApplePro says it will be “cheaper and more efficient” than the current model and will be powered by the M2 Ultra chip. That last point mirrors what reporter Mark Gurman said earlier, including that the Mac Pro will no longer come with the M2 Extreme chip.
The Mac mini will apparently get an unchanged design with the M2 and possibly the M2 Pro chips. No details were shared about the 15-inch MacBook Air or the two MacBook Pro models, except that the MacBook Air was “innovative.” The leaker promises more details in subsequent posts.
Simultaneously, LeaksApplePro believes that Apple will launch a successor to the Pro Display XDR, and that the company is still developing a new iMac Pro. Along with this, they make the bold claim that Apple is planning to abandon the Mac Studio despite its March 2022 launch.
Should You Trust These Claims?
There have been rumblings for a while that Apple delayed its Macs due to production problems. However, LeaksApplePro claims that in fact Apple always intended to launch its next batch of MacBook Pro laptops at a spring event, and it could bundle them with other Macs that weren’t quite ready until late 2022 .
Given that Apple teased its Mac Pro in March 2022, we’d say it’s long overdue, so a spring launch certainly makes sense. mac mini There’s still an Intel option, while the MacBook Pro is also about to be refreshed. All this lends weight to the idea of an update bonanza in the March event.
In fact, Apple holds an event in either March or April most years, so the leaker’s claims make some sense. For example, at the March 8, 2022 event, Apple launched a new iPhone SE, new colors for the iPhone 13, a new iPad Air, and Mac Studio and Studio Display.
However, it is extremely rare for Apple to launch a MacBook at a spring event. The company redesigned the 12-inch MacBook in 2015, but that was really the only time it ever did so.
With that said, LeaksApplePro has what you might euphemistically call a “mixed” track record for accuracy. For example, before the iPhone 14 Pro was launched, he claimed that a source had seen it and that the notch/bullet combination “Doesn’t add anything new.” Apparently, no one told him about Dynamic Island. They are not listed on AppleTrack’s leaker leaderboard, indicating what the publication thinks of their accuracy.
Which means to say that you should not bet your farm on these rumours. While we expect new Macs soon, LeaksApplePro’s track record suggests you should be cautious.
